According to Bloomberg, Nvidia’s market capitalization on Wednesday surpassed Alphabet and Amazon. The chip maker’s stock is now valued at $1.83 trillion, narrowly beating out Alphabet’s market cap of $1.82 trillion. This puts Nvidia as the fourth most valuable company in the world thanks to the rise of AI, following Microsoft ($3.04T), Apple ($2.84T), and Saudi Aramco. Currently, Nvidia is producing the H100 chip that is powering the majority of LLMs, including those used by OpenAI, Microsoft, Meta, and Amazon.

A competition is underway between the leading tech companies in the world to develop their own AI chips, in an attempt to break Nvidia’s dominant hold on the market. Interestingly, these same companies are responsible for Nvidia’s high sales in AI chips, as noted by Bloomberg. Nvidia, based in Santa Clara, is on the verge of launching the H200, a more advanced AI chip with greater memory capacity and bandwidth compared to its predecessor. Recently, Reuters reported that Nvidia has allocated $30 billion towards a department dedicated to assisting other companies in creating customized AI chips. This means that even if these companies choose to produce their own chips, Nvidia stands to benefit from the venture.

At the same time, other companies such as Intel and AMD are developing their own high-performance processors that may compete with the H200.
